Breckenridge is more than a ski town. In the summer, it becomes a mountain playground full of fresh air, fun, and family-friendly adventure. Whether you're visiting for a weekend or soaking in the season, here are five of the best ways to enjoy Breck with kids of all ages—plus a few bonus tips and events to make the most of your trip.

1. Ride the Gondola and Play at Epic Discovery (Peak 8)

Start your adventure with a free ride on the BreckConnect Gondola. It's a scenic, easy lift that brings you right to the base of Peak 8, where Epic Discovery awaits.

Epic Discovery is Breckenridge’s summer adventure park, offering everything from alpine slides and a mountain coaster to ropes courses, rock climbing, and even bungee trampolines. There’s something for every age, and the views alone are worth the trip.

Tip: Go early in the day to beat the crowds and enjoy cooler morning temps.

2. Meet Isak Heartstone—the Breckenridge Troll

Hidden just beyond downtown is a trail that leads to Isak Heartstone, a 15-foot-tall wooden troll created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo. The trail to find him is short, gentle, and perfect for kids. It’s a magical experience for younger ones and a fun photo-op for the whole family.

Best time to visit: Before 10 a.m. or after 5 p.m. for fewer people and better lighting.

3. Splash and Play at the Rec Center

The Breckenridge Recreation Center is a great backup plan for rainy days or when the kids need to burn off some energy indoors. With a water slide, lazy river, toddler splash area, climbing wall, and fitness facilities, it’s a crowd-pleaser across all ages.

It’s also a great way to give the adults a break while the kids stay entertained.

4. Take a Family-Friendly Rafting Trip

Think rafting is just for adrenaline junkies? Not in Breck. Several local outfitters offer scenic float trips for kids as young as four, and slightly more adventurous options for older ones. It's the perfect way to experience Colorado's mountain beauty from the river.

Reminder: Book early. Family rafting spots can fill up fast during the summer.

5. Go Gold Panning at Country Boy Mine

Step back in time at Country Boy Mine, where families can pan for real gold, explore a historic mine, and try a one-of-a-kind outdoor escape room. It’s educational, interactive, and just the right mix of adventure and learning.

This one is especially fun for kids who love stories, puzzles, and hands-on discovery.

Breckenridge pulls out all the stops for Independence Day. Expect live music, a festive parade, kids' crafts, and fireworks that light up the mountains.
